Fans of the Yellowstone TV show are eagerly awaiting Season 5! Set against the beautiful backdrop of Montana, this modern-day Western drama follows fire-scorched cattle ranch owner John Dutton (Kevin Costner).
In addition, it focuses on John’s loyal family as they fight off big business, hostile indigenous tribes, and greedy land developers to protect their land and legacy.
The fifth season will be full of more intrigue, drama, and breathtaking scenery after the record-breaking season 4 finale.
So far, very little is known about the upcoming season. However, you can catch up on all the action from the previous seasons with our Yellowstone recaps.
Season 4 Recap
These are the significant events in Yellowstone Season 4, as the Dutton family is back and trying to rebuild their lives.
John, Kevin Costner
John goes through a lot this season. After spending three months in a coma, he wakes up to find Jimmy is yet again in physical therapy after another horse-riding accident.
He plans on making the Yellowstone a hub for everything horses. Sheriff Donnel (a close ally) is shot in a shootout in a restaurant where he and Rip were.
He chastises Beth for sending his one-night stand to prison. He has one last faceoff with Garett where we might have seen him caring about Jamie.
However, as he vies for the governor’s seat to “tame” Jamie’s ambitions, this might push him away.
Beth, Kelly Reilley
After barely surviving the bombing at her office, she spends most of her time recovering. However, she finds time to play in some corporate espionage in the midst of it all.
Beth disappoints John after she gets his love interest summer thrown into jail, marries Rip with a kidnapped priest as the officiant, gives Carter Finn Little more mommy issues than he needs.
Beth finishes the season strong by accumulating dirt on her hated adopted brother Jamie who she cornered into killing Garett.
Kayce, Luke Grimes
As the season opens, Kayce has survived the ambush at his office. However, Kayce gets shot in a car chase after the shooters. He’s not that badly hurt. However, Tate has to kill a man attacking him and Monica.
He moves the family out of the ranch to a safe place. He is, however, “haunted by a ghost,” which prompts him to go to Chief Rainwater, who guides him to a vision quest.
At the end of season four, he feels more uneasy about the future of his collective family and where they all stand.
Jamie, Wes Bentley
Jamie’s season is not as pleasant as the rest of his family. Not only does Beth believe she put out the hit on her family, but she promises to kill him.
On top of that, Garett (his biological father) wants to make up for a lost time, and Christina is not so keen on letting him see their baby.
He is put in a tough spot which has him become a double murderer and back in his sister’s pocket.
Garett
Despite being an overall terrible person, his death plays a significant role as it marks a new beginning. The slate has been wiped clean, and whatever course the characters take next will shape all other upcoming seasons and sequels.
The fifth season of Yellowstone will pick up where the fourth season left off, and it will follow the Dutton family as they continue to deal with the aftermath of the previous season’s events.
In addition, the new season will also introduce some new characters and explore the lives of some of the supporting characters.
Here’s everything we know about the upcoming season so far.

Are Any Yellowstone Season 4 Recurring Characters Returning?
There are a couple of people who have been promoted to series regulars;
- Teeter Jen Landon
Jen has been promoted to series regular after her unceremonious firing (by John) in season 4. This promotion is good news, and we can’t wait to see her character arc develop.
- Piper Perabo as Summer
Despite season four ending with her behind bars thanks to Beth, she teased at the SAG awards that hers and John’s romance is not yet done, and it’s only begun to get heated up.
- Finn Little as Carter
Despite Beth pushing down her motherly instincts, it’s clear that she longs to have a family of her own, and carter also signifies a new generation for the Duttons.
- Veronica Jack Weaver
Compared to all other market equities heads and overall bad guys, she doesn’t care if she has to play dirty, and she might be the worthy nemesis that Beth has been looking for.
- Emily
Played by Kathryn Kelly, a vet tech who Jimmy meets while he’s at the Four Sixes Ranch and develops a relationship with.
Which Relationships Do We Hope Are Explored In Season 5
From the brewing bromance between Chief Rainwater and John to the Walkers and Laramies love, here are some romances or friendships that we can’t wait to see bloom.
Avery and Kayce
After her dramatic return to the ranch and Kayce seeing her in his vision, we would love to see how their story goes. Sorry Monica
Carter and John
Carter is a young Rip, but the young boy brings out John’s boyish nature.
Colby and Teeter
After surviving a fatal attack together, this pair seemed to be out of the woods. However, as Denim Richards pointed out, they still have work to do before being together.
A love interest for Ryan would probably throw us off, but who wouldn’t mind seeing Ryan all loved up.
