Welcome To the Simple Horse Life!
I’m Lisa Joy, a life long horse lover, wife, and mom of three.
My passion for horses started when I was just 8 years old. I still remember begging my parents to let me take lessons, I loved these beautiful animals and would do anything to be at the barn. Over the next couple of years, I began entering western horse competitions. I loved the thrill of barrel racing and the precision of western pleasure.
As I became more competitive, I wanted a horse to call my own. For my tenth birthday, my parents surprised me with a sweet girl named Baby Doll. She was the gentlest and most even tempered American Quarter horse, I’ve ever met. Looking back we had such a special relationship. She loved to let me gallop through the field and was patient enough to have a picnic on my front lawn.
When I was 22, I lost Baby Doll to spoiled hay. Although the barn was left empty, I never forgot that special bond we shared. There is something about horses that’s better than therapy. They teach us about trust, friendship, and patience.
After I got married and had my three children, I put my love for ridding on the back burner. It wasn’t until 20 years later, that I finally got back in the saddle. Now that my kids are all grown, I’ve rekindled my love for horse.
When I started taking lessons again, I was amazed at how much horsemanship has changed. I’ve enjoyed learning these new techniques and skills, but I still find myself going back to my roots.
I decided to start this blog out of my passion for helping horse lovers (like you), find that special relationship with your horse. Whether you are a beginner or have been riding for years, there are so many tips and tricks that can help you along your journey.
So if I’m not writing a blog post, I’ll be at the barn with my new horse Goldie! Thanks for stopping by!
